I am primarily a qualitative researcher, using thematic and qualitative content analysis of interviews, focus groups, moderated and unmoderated usability studies, and literature reviews.
Academic Research Portfolio
As an academic, I published a variety of peer-reviewed journal articles and a scholarly book about social support communication.

UX Research Portfolio
I have conducted more than 30 research projects for a variety of stakeholders and audiences. Learn more with some case studies.

As a professor, I directed my department’s general education public speaking class, which I also regularly taught. I have also presented at a variety of university and community organizations about communication-related topics. I lead discussions and workshops as well.
I gave a Tedx talk in April 2022 at the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse. My talk was based on my academic research about social support communication.
Author and Editor

My first story was written in 4th grade, about taking a trip to outer space with an alien.
As a trained journalist, I learned how to write concisely and edit ruthlessly.
As an academic author, I learned how to write expansively…and edit ruthlessly.
As a UX Researcher, I learned how to write in a report and in a deck. You guessed it. I still edit like a pro.
